How do you even begin to value this thing?

Assemble and assess all of your liquid assets and do the Used Car Two-Step.

1. Is their cash value equal to or greater than the asking price?

2. Is their non-cash value (sentimental, practical and otherwise) equal to or less than the non-cash value of the used car?

If you answered yes to both questions, the answer is "I value it A BARGAIN!" and you have yourself a new car.

We had a very similar one in brown with German plates show up at the campground I was working at in Canada. Very cool. A nice older couple owned it.

Difficult to believe there's more than one, but there apprently is a lid for every pot. Or an ass for every seat - take your choice.

If I want something to sleep in, there are so many cool, and full-sized, motorhomes to be had for that sort of money. CP.

So your answer is 'NO?'

I agree. There are too many cooler , cheaper alternatives out there...

Saw a lot of these when I was a kid - seems to make a lot more sense. I could buy a nice one and still have cash left to outfit and refurbish it.

Well, if you're going to do real off-roading and off the grid camping, then nice price. There isn't much else out there that competes with it, and none of them are cheap.

If you're just going to drive to a campground and park it, total crack pipe.

It's basically just a converted ambulance chassis, is it not? It's pretty common for that kind of thing to be done over here, why not on the other side of the pond? The one I saw, given that it still had the German registration plates on it, was definitely also from Europe, as the linked ad states this one is.

I am pretty such the G-Wagen itself was designed for the Austrian (?) military - as such it is overdesigned for civilian use. But people bought them. Usually for ridiculous amounts of money.

Yeah, but it'd make a pretty decent bug-out vehicle, no? All the amenities of home wherever the G-Wagen can take you. People over here also bought the Hummer H1 for ridiculous amounts of money. Heck, people over here even buy the G-Wagen...
